Pauli Exclusion Principle

The spin quantum number is important because the Pauli Exclusion Principle (PEP) states that no two electrons in the same atom can have the same four quantum numbers. If two electrons in an atom have the same value of n, l, and ml, they must have different values of ms: one must be spin up and one must be spin down.
