13.3 The Carnot Cycle and the Efficiency of Engines

Instructions:
Click on the "Start Simulation" button to open the applet window. Press the 'Init' button then the 'Start' button to start the simulation. You can stop the simulation anytime by pressing 'stop' but you have to press 'Init' and 'Start' again to resume it.

Notice: Positioning your cursor over the buttons will activate them.

Navigation: You can come back to this window by pressing the "Close Simulation" button on the bottom frame of the utility.

Explanation:
The simulation illustrates the concepts of Carnot cycle and Carnot engine as discussed in section 13.3. The diagram to the left is an illustration of a Carnot engine as shown in Figure 13.9. Note the color scheme used. The surrounding is at the same color as the gas on isothermal processes only. The corresponding Carnot cycle diagram is shown to the right.
