15.9 Standing Waves on a String Sound of Shapes

Explanation: This applet allows you to design your own object and render the sounds it makes under various interactions like hitting, plucking, and scraping. As shown in Sections 15.9 and 15.10 the sound made by an object depends on the physical properties of the object. The simulation demonstrates that the kind of excitation (hitting, plucking, etc.) also plays a role in determining the resonance mode of the object. The applet allows you also to investigate properties of some additional shapes.
