Chapter 7: Pronouns
Chapter Summary
A pronoun is a word that is a substitute for a noun. The nominative case is used when the pronoun is the subject or subject complement or when it is in apposition to a subject. The objective case is used when the pronoun is a direct or indirect object, an object of a preposition, or in apposition to the parts just listed.
A possessive pronoun, like a possessive noun, indicates ownership. A possessive pronoun, however, does not require an apostrophe to show ownership.
In addition to studying personal pronouns in greater depth, Chapter 7 will introduce several other classifications of pronouns, including compound personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, indefinite pronouns, interrogative pronouns, and relative pronouns.
