Chapter 18: Numbers

Chapter Summary
Numbers may be expressed in figures or in words. Figures are easier to read; however, numbers spelled out in words lend a formal touch to a document. Differences may occur when writing numbers for technical or nontechnical purposes. The emphasis in Chapter 18 is on numbers used in technical material, in business correspondence, and on business forms. Consistency in writing numbers is important.

The rules for writing numbers include exceptions; therefore, an office reference manual is a helpful source of information.

The online resources for Chapter 18 will reinforce and enhance your study of number usage. Begin by choosing one of the chapter links.
