Student Resources Chapter 3: Time Management Chapter Summary Effective time management through the use of short-term and long-term planning is crucial for successfully managing information in a workplace. In addition to effectively using short-term and long-term planning, understanding each team members' emotional style (i.e., the way each deals with stress and working with others) is important. There are several emotional styles, including take-charge, people-pleaser, talker, catastrophic, bully, complainer, and victim; knowing how to effectively use each of these types in a group project can be helpful. Schedules are an important element of effective time management. These help ensure that a project's deadline is met. Deadlines for various stages of a project, as well as the final deadline, should be set. Preventive measures should be taken to ensure that deadlines are met. Team members should be honest about their own and others' emotional styles, skill levels, and available time. Creating an outline and calendar, as well as keeping notes and sending project updates, is also useful. Online Links Get Paid Guides (Page 49) Search Engine Web sites (Page 55, Page 61)
