Student Resources Chapter 2 : Deciding What Multimedia Aids Are Appropriate Chapter Summary When determining what type of multimedia aid to use during a presentation, it is important to consider factors such as the presentation setting and the potential positive or negative affects your visuals may have. The presentation setting includes the audience demographics and the physical environment in which you will be speaking. The audience members' ages, genders, occupations, ethnic or geographic origins, and levels of education should be taken into consideration when determining audience demographics. When evaluating the speaking environment, it is beneficial to determine the size of the room, the equipment available, and the audience set-up. There are four common room-layout set-ups, including traditional, semicircle, circle, and aisle. A presentation audit, which is an evaluation of the presentation outline, should be conducted after the audience and speaking environment has been considered. This will help determine where multimedia aids should be placed in a speech to enhance or support the message, as well as to determine whether technology-based or non-technology-based aids are more appropriate.
