Student Resources Chapter 10: Using Visual Aids Chapter Summary Visual aids can contribute greatly to a speech's effectiveness by gaining audience members' attention and clarifying meanings. There is a variety of visual displays used in speeches, both non-electronic or electronic. Non-electronic displays include blackboards, poster boards, handouts, and demonstrations. The assorted types of electronic displays used in speeches include overhead projectors, slides, presentation software, film, and videos. There are various types of visual aids used in speeches including lists, tables, charts, graphs, maps, drawings, photographs, objects, and models. When using a visual aid in a speech, it is beneficial to rehearse using it with the speech. It is important to display the visual aids only when they are relevant to what is being discussed and to maintain visual contact with the audience while discussing the visual aids. Online Links
