Write a Cover Letter
Use the following information to write a standard cover letter on your computer. Remember, there is no "perfect version," but pay attention to phrasing, use action verbs, and think about relevant job experience.
For quick reference, review the standard cover letter format before you begin to write this exercise, or use it for your own cover letter:
Cover Letter Format
Catherine Lee is a recent graduate who has had several part-time jobs and is interested in applying for an entry-level position as an office manager for Perky Dogs magazine, which she read about in the latest issue.
- Catherine lives at 209 Woodstock Lane in Ann Arbor, Michigan, 48103. Her phone number is (734) 555-3251.
- The Perky Dogs office is at 728 Mission Street in Detroit, Michigan, 48230. Evan Mack is the human resources contact.
- Catherine graduated from Orange Coast College in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a grade point average of 3.1.
- During her last two years in college, she was an assistant manager at the Inkwell Stationery Supplies where she was in charge of purchasing goods, expanded the online store, and oversaw a staff of six.
- The year before she worked at the stationery store, she waited tables at the Noodle Bowl restaurant. There, she also planned events and developed a new scheduling method.
- As a senior in high school in 1998, she worked at the Rancho Pet Store as a sales clerk. In addition to conducting sales, she set up events with suppliers.
