Q:
I noticed a change in the format for "Page-2" letter headings
for multipage letters and memos. Why was this change made?
A: It is much simpler to use the software default page numbering
feature for all documents. Use this feature to place the page number
in the top right corner of the letter or memo.
Q: Is using the vertical centering feature still appropriate
for one-page business letters? A: No. Since many typists create their own letterheads, vertical centering causes
problems by centering the letterhead information as well. This is true even
when Word's built-in letter templates are used. Creating a 2-inch top margin
is much easier. This is the same format currently used in multipage letters,
memos, and reports.
Q: Why are copy notations kept on one line now rather
than being separated on different lines? A: By placing the copy notations on one line, with the names separated by a
comma, the student does not have to contend with the half-inch indent that Word
automatically inserts.
Q: The software and learning materials show just a
single space following the period at the end of a sentence. Why was this change
made? A: In today's technological world—where email has taken the place of traditional
pen and paper writing—keyboarding efficiency is more important than ever. To
this end, it has been decided to begin teaching the use of one space at the
end of a sentence for the sake of expediency.
Q: Why is A4 metric stationery introduced? A: To meet the demands of an ever-changing international economy, it is imperative
that students recognize the fact that there is an alternate stationery used
in many countries of the world where the metric system is prevalent over the
customary system of weights and measures. (In addition to introducing A4 stationery,
international addresses, dot-style telephone numbers, and the day-month-year
dateline format is presented as well.)
