  1. Rembrandt’s pupil Drost is now thought to be the painter of The Polish Rider, so not many people are interested in looking at it anymore. Pretend you’re a museum tour guide taking a group of people through the museum which has both the Drost and some Rembrandt paintings. What would you say to your group to convince them to take some time to look at Drost’s The Polish Rider?
  2. Explain how Picasso could have painted both Olga Picasso in an Armchair and Dora Maar Sitting. In your answer, mention style, abstraction, realism and the words of the artist himself.
  3. Compare and contrast the two portraits of Van Gogh by Gauguin and Van Gogh. As you point out the similarities and differences, include the backgrounds, details, colors, textures and spaces of each. Which one do you prefer? Why?
  4. Describe the specific iconography of Sita in the Garden of Lanka with Ravana and His Demons. How does knowledge of this particular iconography contribute to an appreciation of this painting?
