  1. Explain which techniques and devices artists can use when they want objects to be seen as either foreground or background. Include size, placement, color and overlapping in your answer. Be specific in your answer; say which devices would be for foreground and which ones for background.
  2. Compare and contrast Romare Bearden and Andrea Mantegna as artists with different senses of color, line, texture, perspective, space and subject matter. Which do you prefer? Why?
  3. Pretend you have a blind friend. Describe Louise Nevelson's sculpture City on a High Mountain to this friend, taking pains to make him/her "see" it.
  4. Explain the devices used by the Futurists to show motion. Why do you think the Futurists were so eager to show movement? What was happening in the second decade of the 20th century that inspired the Futurists?
