This spirited and inspiring collection of writing by seven children, ages 7 to 17, who have all attended a camp for children with life threatening diseases, and the counselors who lead the camp's creative-writing program, offers a window into the minds of children who live with cancer, sickle cell anemia, disability, or AIDS. In moving and witty poetry and prose, they talk about their families, their friends, their beliefs in God, and their feelings about their illnesses.

Psychosocial Development

Comer, J. P., & Poussaint, A. F. (1992). Raising black children. New York: Plume. Elkind, D. (1988). The hurried child (rev. ed.). Reading, MA: Addison-Wesley. This book, by a well-known psychologist, examines how parents can raise healthy children who enjoy childhood, despite a social trend toward pressure to grow up fast.
