Students' learning depends on a classroom atmosphere in which all students and teachers know exactly what is expected of them. Organizing the classroom in a way that satisfies the teacher and that students understand is the first step in providing effective teaching and learning. Another critical component of classroom management is the rules that teachers establish for organizing their classroom. As teachers decide what to teach, how to teach it, and how to organize their classrooms, they must also keep in mind that these instructional and organizational techniques should evolve and adapt to the changing needs of students over time. Students' needs and experiences influence their behavior and both positive and negative behaviors have a purpose. Consequently, if teachers can identify the goal that a particular behavior is intended to achieve, they can correct problem behavior and positively reinforce appropriate behavior.
