Students not only enter the classroom with a wide range of cognitive abilities; they also bring unique cultural and social experiences that influence their learning. The growing diversity in the nation's classrooms highlights the need for a greater emphasis on multicultural education and recognition of students' cultures and backgrounds. When teachers are aware of cultural differences, they can use instructional strategies that are compatible with the learning styles of diverse groups of students. Additional factors found to deeply impact student learning include a student's socioeconomic status, level of parental involvement, and quality of the relationships between teachers and students.
