A Good Teacher and Friend

Unique, caring, sensitive, out going, amazing, patient, and helpful are all the characteristics that I feel takes to be a "perfect" teacher. I was lucky to have a teacher that in my eyes was "perfect." Going into high school I was very nervous of the challenges that the hard high school curriculum would bring me especially because it takes me a longer time to work on my homework and study because of my learning disability. I was very overwhelmed the first day of high school because all of my classes seemed a lot harder then they were in middle school. It was not until 7th period that all my worries came to ease. As I went to the resource center, which was the room for learning disability students to get help on their work, I meet the most amazing teacher I have ever had. As I walked in to the room I saw a short woman with the biggest smile on her face, Mrs. K. As soon as I meet her I knew that everything was going to be okay, we had an instant connection. She talked to me about the resources that I have available through her and it made me feel a lot better about starting high school.

Throughout my freshman year she helped me a lot with my work and she became not only my teacher but a good friend. We had a very unique teacher-student relationship. She always was here for me whether I needed help with an essay or had a personal problem. As my high school career went on we became closer and closer each day that I went to her class. When graduation came at the end of my senior year she gave me a graduation present which was the novel, Tuesday's with Morrie. At first I honestly was not trilled that she gave me a book for my present but as a read the book I saw a very similar relationship that I had with her like Morrie and Mitch had. She taught so much about life and has had such a great effect on my life. I was very excited to go off to college but I was also sad to leave the high school, since I would be leaving behind a great teacher and friend.

The great relationship that we had is one of the main reasons why I want to become a teacher. Mrs. K. really had such a great effect and influence on my life and has helped shaped who I am today. I want to be able to do the same for my students because I can see from my experiences of her being my teacher what a difference she has made in my life.
