Americans just above average in Math/Science

According to a recent article in the Washington Post, 8th graders in the United States are slightly above average in math and science, compared to their peers around the world. The results indicate that American educators are interested in figuring out how to raise test scores in science and math. The U.S. made significant gains in these two areas as did Canada. Singapore, Japan, and South Korea lead the way among the highest. A reason for the improvement is that more than a dozen countries in Western Europe dropped out of the voluntary testing, and many developing nations and former Soviet states participated for the first time. What does this say for our America education?
