Published Coolidge Senior High Female Writers

During the last five weeks of the 1999 - 2000 school year, the Washington Times distributed 100 copies to District high schools. In the five-week Newspaper-In-Education Project, Coolidge Senior High School students had special assignments to enhance their writing skills. Students were also provided the opportunity to have their work published in the Washington Times.

They had to select one of the following four topics:

  • A straight news story on any school event
  • A feature story on any one of your fellow students
  • A profile on someone in your community
  • A District City Public Schools issue you feel strongly about.

Four female students had their work published in the Washington Times on September 21, 2000. One student reported that their special assignments made the news. Another student profiled her grandfather, a DC public works supervisor. Another student featured Coolidge Senior High School's Newspaper-In-Education project coordinators. Another student reported that their special focused on the theme,"Developing a literate citizenry."
