Teachers from Afar
The article describes how the Palm Beach School district is trying to recruit teachers not only from the state but from elsewhere in the U. S. and internationally. The article explains the process of recruitment and how by recruiting from other counties schools can often fill a growing gap for the need of multicultural and bilingual teachers.
The article continues with information on the current demographics of teachers hired in Palm Beach County this year. Some interesting facts were the amount of Florida residents hired(the majority, followed by N.Y. and Pennsylvania.
Because of the high cost of living and low pay, Florida is having difficulty finding enough teachers to fill positions, especially in critical need areas such as Math and Science, according to the article. I would be interested in finding out what other states are doing to fill the gap or if International recruitment is unique to Florida.
