Mr.
Holland's Opus
Movie Review by: Amy Allen
Mr. Holland's Opus is a touching story of how one man realizes the trials of teaching and works to overcome them. Mr. Holland learns to teach children, not just instruct them on what to do. Through his trials and tribulations as a teacher and a parent, he changes his own life. One of the ironic features of this film is that his own son is deaf, and he fails to realize that even his son can still appreciate music. He also learns that despite his best efforts, schools face many challenges economically and political ambition often determines which school programs are kept and which are cut. It is a touching look at one teacher's realization that not all students are alike, and it is important to find what drives those students to help them succeed.
