ALLWRITE! The McGraw-Hill Writing Program is a state-of-the-art interactive Windows-based software program designed to improve student writing and editing. A self-paced tutorial program, ALLWRITE! covers basic grammar and usage (with additional tips for ESL students), punctuation, and spelling in context. It also includes practical guidance for developing effective paragraphs, essays, and research papers. Students do not merely watch screen of data pass by, pressing a button to advance to the next screen. Rather, ALLWRITE! incorporates graphics and interactive help screens to engage student interest. This program provides comprehensive diagnostic pre-tests and post-tests, plus extensive practice exercises in every area.

ALLWRITE! combines three main learning modes to create a powerful, multifaceted computer tutorial that works just as hard for your students as it does for you:

1. Help Mode:
   

   This provides helpful text review, as well as a variety of examples and instructional animation sequences for key issues concerning grammar, punctuation, and spelling in context. Three levels of instructional help are available in the Help Mode:

   • Tell Me provides a brief review of the selected objective.

   • Show Me offers more detailed information and provides interactive examples and exercises so students can participate in the editing of a sentence or paragraph.

   • The Glossary provides as-needed definitions of important terms--available for a single objective or the entire program. Glossary terms are highlighted when they first appear in Tell Me or Show Me.

2. Practice Mode
   

   Here, students skills are strengthened and tested through a variety of multiple-choice, error identification, and short-answer formats. Countless different questions are available for most objectives, and where appropriate, questions are in context of larger paragraphs.

3. Test Mode
   

   Specially created with the instructors' needs in mind, diagnostic pre-testing and post-testing assesses student mastery of material and suggests appropriate action.

Other outstanding features enable ALLWRITE! to be easily adapted to wide variety of school setups and student learning styles:

• keeps track of objectives worked on and whether they have been mastered.
• prints practice sessions and test results for each objective.
