Mastering Sentence Structure

This chapter explains five rules for writing sentences that are clear,
logical, and idiomatic. Each explanation is followed by a series of
exercises you can use to practice what you have learned.

1. All sentences must have subjects. If the subject of your
    sentence is a pronoun, make sure to include that pronoun
    even when its reference is clear.

Not:     I enjoyed the movie. Was very funny.

But:     I enjoyed the movie. It was very funny.

Not:     The students participate well. Are prepared.

But:     The students participate well. They are prepared.
