Directions: Now let's try outlining a few paragraphs from a different kind of essay. The following essay, "Childhood Fears," appears in the examples section of your book. Read the first paragraph carefully. Each sentence is numbered. Identify the thesis statement by clicking on the down arrow next to the empty line and selecting the number of the appropriate sentence from the list that appears.

Childhood Fears

1. I remember my childhood as being generally happy and can recall experiencing some of the most carefree times of my life. 2. But I can also remember, even more vividly, moments of being deeply frightened. 3. As a child, I was truly terrified of the dark and of getting lost; these fears were very real and caused me some extremely uncomfortable moments.
