IMPROVING YOUR VOCABULARY
SHORT CUTS TO WORD MEANINGS
The following pages present lists of the most useful Latin and Greek prefixes, suffixes, and roots. Studying two or three of these every day can dramatically improve your vocabulary. Since approximately 60 percent of English words come from Latin and another 15 percent from Greek, learning these word parts and recognizing them in your reading will make a significant difference in your reading vocabulary. Each word part is defined and illustrated for you.
Be sure that you don't merely memorize the items on these lists. Instead, study them in conjunction with the examples and then look for them in your daily reading.
