Expanding on the notion of “scripts” that we've been working with this semester, I'd like you to imagine how a conversation among Rebecca Moore Howard, Andrea Foster, Stephen Rosenwasser & Jill Stephen, and yourself might go. I'd like you to write a conversation “script” in which the four parties discuss different approaches to and ideas about plagiarism, authorship, and/or copyright issues.

The purpose of this assignment is to give you a chance to work out some of the authorship theories we've been discussing and apply them to an issue that affects your lives directly as student writers in a university—plagiarism. Because the next section of the course will deal with academic argument, this assignment is also designed to help you figure out where you stand on issues that we've been studying together as a class, thus preparing you to craft an argument about one of these issues.

Please set the conversation script up just like it would appear in a drama or a screenplay. Provide a list of the “characters,” telling your audience a little bit about each of them—their academic and professional credentials, their areas of research, etc.

Howard: blah blah blah

Foster: blah blah blah blah

Student: Well, I don't agree with your blah blah blah. Instead, I think that……

Rosenwasser & Stephen: We agree with you, too, mainly because blah blah blah….
