John Hope Franklin
John Hope Franklin is James
B. Duke Professor Emeritus at Duke University, and was for seven years
Professor of Legal History at Duke University Law School. Born in
Oklahoma in 1915, he graduated in 1935 from Fisk University. He received
a Master's degree and Doctorate from Harvard University. He was Chairman
of the Department of History at Brooklyn College and at the University
of Chicago, where he remains the John Matthews Manly Distinguished
Service Professor Emeritus. He was a Fullbright Professor at Australia.
Dr. Franklin has published many works and most recently he was awarded
the National Endowment for the Humanities Charles Frankel Award, presented
by President Clinton. He holds one hundred honorary degrees as well
as the Congressional Medal of Freedom. He was recently one of seven
people chosen by President Clinton for a Presidential advisory board
to help foster better race relations in the United States.
Alfred A. Moss, Jr.
Alfred A. Moss, Jr. is
Associate Professor of History at the University of Maryland, College
Park. After completing his undergraduate work at Lake Forest College,
Dr. Moss received his Masters and Doctorate at the University of Chicago.
A graduate of the Episcopal Divinity School, he is also an Episcopal
priest. He is also the author of several books and numerous articles.
