• How do I find the right therapist?

• What questions should I ask during the first session?

• How can I afford therapy?

• How can I tell if therapy is really working?

• How do I know when to end therapy?

Five Therapists and One Client (1991)

by Raymond Corsini and contributors

Itasca, IL: Peacock

Therapists who have five distinctive approaches to helping clients describe their conceptual orientation, therapy techniques, and demonstrate how they would likely work with the same fictitious client. The imaginary client is a relatively normal individual with unusual and persistent problems—a common client for psychotherapists in private practice. Four clear-cut systems of psychotherapy were selected: Alfred Adler’s individual therapy, Carl Rogers’s person-centered therapy, Albert Ellis’s rational-emotive therapy, and behavior therapy. Finally, a fifth therapy approach—eclectic therapy—was chosen. How therapists from these five different approaches would handle the same client serves as the core of the book, helping you to see distinctive ways therapists with different orientations conduct psychotherapy.
