validity
  The concept that tests actually measure what they are supposed to measure (Ch. 9)
 
variable
  Behaviors, events, or other characteristics that can change, or vary, in some way (Ch. 2)
 
variable-interval schedule
  A schedule whereby the time between reinforcements varies around some average rather than being fixed (Ch. 6)
 
variable-ratio schedule
  A schedule whereby reinforcement occurs after a varying number of responses rather than after a fixed number (Ch. 6)
 
variability
  The spread, or dispersion, of scores in a distribution (App.)
 
visual illusions
  Physical stimuli that consistently produce errors in perception (Ch. 4)
