wear-and-tear theories of aging
  Theories that suggest that the mechanical functions of the body simply stop working efficiently (Ch. 13)
 
Weber’s law
  One of the basic laws of psychophysics stating that a just noticeable difference is a constant proportion of the intensity of an initial stimulus (Ch. 4)
 
weight set point
  The particular level of weight that the body strives to maintain (Ch. 10)
 
working memory
  Baddeley’s theory that short-term memory comprises three components, the central executive, the visuospatial sketch pad, and the phonological loop (Ch. 7)
