Kantowitz, B. H., Roediger III, H. L., & Elmes, D. G. (1994). Experimental psychology: Understanding psychological research (5th ed.). Minneapolis, MN: West Publishing Co. An outstanding text covering experimental methods and techniques, intended for psychology students with little formal background in research.
Kirk, R. E. (1990). Statistics: An introduction (3rd ed.). Fort Worth: Harcourt-Brace. A solid introduction to the basic concepts and procedures of statistics, especially as used by psychologists.
Plomin, R. (1990). Nature and nurture: An introduction to human behavioral genetics. Pacific Grove, CA: Brooks-Cole. A wonderfully accessible introduction to the field of behavioral genetics, one easily read by beginning psychology students. This is also an excellent choice for more advanced students looking for a less technical introduction.
Plomin, R., DeFreis, J. C., & McClearn, G. E. (1990). Behavioral genetics: A primer (2nd ed.). New York: W. H. Freeman & Co. The most authoritative volume on the emerging field of behavioral genetics, written by the leading researchers in the field. Though the coverage is complete and readable, it is intended primarily as an introduction and reference for advanced students and professionals.
Rosnow, R. L., & Rosenthal, R. (1996). Beginning behavioral research: A conceptual primer (2nd ed.). Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall. Another outstanding introduction to research methods, though with a somewhat broader scope and a more theoretical orientation.
