A highly readable text incorporating evolutionary theory into contemporary learning theory. It includes a considerable number of examples involving humans.

Buckley, K. W. (1989). Mechanical man: John Broadus Watson and the beginnings of behaviorism. New York: Guilford Press. A fine scholarly history of Watson’s career, both in and out of academic settings.

Schwartz, B. (1989). Psychology of learning and behavior (3rd ed.). New York: Norton. A complete, authoritative reference to theory and principles of conditioning.

Skinner, B. F. (1971). Beyond freedom and dignity. New York: Knopf. An accessible, nontechnical account of Skinner’s work and beliefs.
