  1. Define concept, and discuss the hierarchical nature and structure of concepts.
  2. List and describe the three stages of problem solving, and identify potential difficulties at each stage.
  3. Compare and contrast algorithms and heuristics, and give three examples of general heuristics.
  4. Describe creative problem solving, and discuss the factors that facilitate creative thinking.
  5. Provide evidence in favor of and opposed to the concept of humans as rational decision makers.
  6. Discuss some factors that can lead to errors in judging odds.
  7. Describe the structural components of language, including the terms phoneme, morpheme, semantics, and syntax.
  8. Describe the process of comprehension.
  9. Describe the debate on the extent to which language determines thinking, including the linguistic relativity hypothesis, and discuss the outcome of studies designed to test this hypothesis.
  10. Explain how written language is understood and affected by both phonetic instruction and extensive practice.
  11. Describe the debate over whether nonhumans can acquire and use language.
