The first step of the research process
is to begin to think like a scientist. Psychology is a
scientific discipline. Because psychologists use the scientific
method, they are similar to scientists in disciplines
such as anthropology, biology, chemistry, and sociology.
What differs among these scientific disciplines is the
content of researchers' investigations. Psychologists
study the mind and behavior, whereas anthropologists study
evolution and culture, biologists study cells, chemists
study molecules, and sociologists study societies.
