Music Heritage Network's Musical Encyclopedia

Developed in cooperation with the University of Michigan School of Information
and Stearns Museum of Musical Instruments, School of Music, this project
is an initiative of CHICO, the Cultural Heritage Information and Community
Outreach project at SI. This is an excellent resource for learning about
many different instruments. Allows the user to browse instruments by
type, classification, and geography. Many instrument listings also include
links to other sites about that instrument.

Kristy Adams, the creator of this web page, is a music major at Clayton
College and State University in Morrow, GA. She has "compiled as much
information as possible from different master classes including Jean
Pierre Rampal, Paula Robinson, Bonita Boyd, and Amy Porter. The info
is quite helpful in developing technique, perfect tone, better practicing
habits, what to do at an audition, how to prepare music, and so much
more. There are MIDIs here compiled from all over the web with flute
and piano accompaniment. Kristy has put together a pretty good web page
with lots of good info for flutists.

The site contains information on right and left hand technique, ear training,
classroom and private teaching, as well as a list of books and information
on string pedagogy. Michael Hopkins, who created and maintains the site,
is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at the University
of Vermont where he conducts the University Symphony Orchestra and teaches
Basic Musicianship. Includes a searchable database of Graded Orchestra
Literature, which currently contains 50 titles and will eventually contain
over 190.
