Kamien ChartPlayer Listening Guides for Use with The Brief Set of 5 CDs

1. Turn off the CD option that automatically opens iTunes.
   • If you do not do this, do not expect the software to respond properly. Figuratively speaking, your computer and ChartPlayer will fight for contol of the CD. The results are unpredictable. Note: When you are finished using ChartPlayer, either at the end of each session or the end of the semester, you may change your settings back.
     • Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu.
     • Click on CDs & DVDs under the Hardware section.
     • Set "When You Insert a Music CD" to "Ignore".
     • Close the System preferences
   • Download the application for OS X.
     • The resulting file will be called "Kamien7_CP_dmg".
2. Double-click Kamien7_CP.dmg.
   • To find this file, you must know where your browser stores its downloaded files. If you don't know, you may search for this file using the File/Find Files feature of the Mac OS.
   • The program will open up in a disk image on the desktop. Drag the folder inside the disk to a place on your desktop or hard drive where you will be able to find it easily. It is recommended to drag it into the Applications folder.
   • Create an alias on your dock by dragging the program icon inside the folder to the dock. Be careful not to drag the program outside its folder or it will not function properly.

1. Windows Vista: Turn off CD AutoPlay.
• If you do not do this, do not expect the software to respond properly. Figuratively speaking, your computer and ChartPlayer will fight for contol of the CD and ChartPlayer will not work properly. Note: When you are finished using ChartPlayer, either at the end of each session or the end of the semester, you may change your settings back.
  • Choose Control Panel from the Start Menu.
  • Click on Classic View.
  • Choose AutoPlay.
  • Next to both Audio CD and Enhanced audio CD, select “Take no action.”
  • Click Save.
2. Windows XP: To turn off Auto Play
   • If you do not do this, do not expect the software to respond properly. Figuratively speaking, your computer and ChartPlayer will fight for contol of the CD and ChartPlayer will not work properly. Select My Computer from the Start Menu
     • Highlight the CD-ROM Icon
     • Right click and go into Properties
     • Choose Auto Play
     • Drop down box - Select Music CD
     • Mark Box - Action to Perform
     • Highlight - Take no action
     • Click OK
3. Windows 2000: Cannot turn off auto-play!!
   • If an audio program (such as MediaPlayer or MusicMatchbox) or CD duplication program (such as Roxio) opens automatically, manually close it before using ChartPlayer.
   • You will need to do this each time you use ChartPlayer.
4. Download ChartPlayer for Windows here.
   • You can choose to install without downloading by choosing Run from the first dialog box.
   • The resulting file will be called "Kamien7setup.exe".
5. Double-click Kamien7setup.exe.
   • To find this file, you must know where your browser stores its downloaded files. If you don't know, you may search for this file using the Start/Find/Files or Folders feature of the Windows OS.
   • Follow the instructions. The ChartPlayer software will be installed on your hard drive in the Program Files directory and shortcuts will be created on your desktop and the Start menu.
