This site by Lawrence Hinman has boxes that are links which take you to web pages where there are discussions of theories about rights, Kant and deontology, utilitarianism, moral pluralism, egoism, ethics and religion, plus links to many topics in applied ethics. The discussion by Hinman of anti-theories is especially interesting.

British Society for Ethical Theory
Not just for British students or professors, this is a useful site with links to leading journals of ethics and an important page, "Links for Ethical Theorists".

Applied Ethics Resources
Maintained by the Ethics Center at the University of British Columbia, this page provides useful Starting Points in Applied Ethics, as well as links to ethical issues about Computers, Animals, Business, Media, Environment, Medical, Professional, and Moral Reasoning.

Applied Ethics
This Lawrence Hinman site contains many useful links to papers and resources in applied ethics, including papers and discussions of capital punishment, sexual orientation, world hunger, race, racism, & ethnicity, euthanasia, abortion, and gender & sexism.

Society for Ethics
Established in 1995, The Society for Ethics of promotes scholarly writing in ethics, including ethical theory, moral, social and political philosophy, and applied ethics.

ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS

Environmental Ethics
Maintained at the University of North Texas, the premier site for philosophical writing about the environment and ethics. Contains a useful NEWS link with stories about ecofeminism.

Environmental Ethics - Short-Title Topic Lists
Extremely helpful page for writing papers in environmental ethics. Has links to important writers such as J. Baird Callicott, ecofeminist Vandana Shiva, and lists of topics such as "Christianity and Social Ecology" with links.

A Brief History of Environmental Ethics
A nice overview of the birth of environmental ethics with the first Earth Day in 1970 to present, discussing the Sand County Almanac, Adolph Leopold, and modern issues such as deep ecology and ecofeminism. From the folks at the Center for Environmental Ethics at the University of North Texas, with many links to related sites.

Environmental Ethics - Short-Title Topic Lists
An unusual site, of use to both students and professors. For the former, the long list of titles will give many ideas for papers. For the latter, each topic has a link to a list of books that can be purchased to be read and used as resources for the topic.

Environmental Ethics Graduate Programs
List of about 15 graduate programs in environmental ethics, including titles and abstracts of students’ dissertations. Take note of programs at Colorado State University and University of North Texas.

BIOETHICS

Bioethics.net
The best site for bioethics and medical ethics, especially for issues in American medicine, maintained by bioethicist Glenn McGee and associates at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Bioethics. Updated almost daily, with analyses of episodes of "ER". Contains links to actual on-line articles, not just links to a list of links. This site has gotten fabulous reviews by various web-savvy groups.

National Bioethics Advisory Commission
The National Bioethics Advisory Commission or NBAC was created by executive order of President Clinton in 1995. Its purpose is to make recommendations to the National Science and Technology Council and to other appropriate government entities regarding ethical issues involving government funding. Its chief reports concern the cloning of humans, stem cell research, international research, use of human biological materials, and research on persons who are mentally-ill or who lack full autonomy. No text papers on site, but many reports are available for downloading via Adobe Acrobat.

Bioethics for clinicians
Slanted for bioethical issues in Canada and maintained by the Canadian Medical Association Journal, this site has articles written by scholars in medicine, ethics and law. It includes articles on practicing medicine in culturally diverse populations, informed consent, disclosure, substitute decision-making, advance care planning, truth telling, confidentiality, involving children in medical decisions, research ethics, euthanasia and assisted suicide, ethical dilemmas that arise in the care of pregnant women: rethinking: maternal—fetal conflicts, resource allocation, ethics and genetics in medicine, quality of life, end-of-life care, dealing with demands for inappropriate treatment, conflict of interest in research, education and patient care

Biomedical & Health Care Ethics Resources on the Web
Nice list of links to specific topics such as Alzheimer’s, ethics committees, DNA banking, nursing ethics, research ethics, careers in bioethics, and cloning.

National Reference Center for Bioethics
A good bioethics site that gives you access to BIOETHICSLINE, the premier search engine for articles/abstracts about bioethics. Also on this site is a good list of links to articles on ethics and genetics.

Bibliography of Bioethics
Lists of titles of articles, sometimes with abstracts, arranged by topic, e.g., Huntington’s disease, cloning, and ethics committees. Some lists stop in 1995. No links to on-line articles.
This site is a version of this famous Bibliography, and gives you abstracts of articles, but most full articles can only be found in the library. Still the site is useful. For example, by clicking on "Gene Therapy," you get abstracts on 115 articles. Moreover, the entries have been screened to be almost entirely on the ethical, social, political, and legal aspects of such therapy, not technical details.

Careers in Bioethics
Two to three nice on-line articles about how to have a career in bioethics and the job prospects.

BUSINESS ETHICS

Business Ethics Resources on WWW
Maintained by the Center for Applied Ethics at the University of British Columbia (Canada), "Specific Topics" contains links to sites on child labor, corruption, codes of ethics, and issues in advertising.

Center for Business Ethics
Maintained by the Center for Business Ethics at Bentley College in Massachusetts, this site contains bibliographies on the ethics of: fraud and financial reporting, mergers and acquisitions, and procurement, as well as business issues in computer and health care ethics. Bentley College has one of the oldest Centers for Business Ethics. No full-text articles, but several good bibliographies.

International Business Ethics Institute (IBEI)
IBEI fosters global business practices that promote equitable economic development, sustainable resources, and just forms of government.

Institute for Business and Professional Ethics
Maintained by DePaul University in Chicago, this interdisciplinary site weaves together issues in ethics and business. Has lots and lots of good cases studies for discussion and for papers, but be warned you must click in about 4 links deep under "global compact" to get to them.

Maintained by the Philosophy Department at Carnegie Mellon University, this site is the best one for ethical issues involving the use of for computers and the impact of computers on society, e.g., issues about privacy.

Contains a useful bibliography.

Essays on Computer Ethics
Contains useful papers and case-studies on-line.

ETHICS AND ANIMALS

Ethical Issues in Treatment of Animals
About 50 links to sites that discuss the ethics of using animals in experiments, as food, and whether animals can be persons.

Animal Concerns
Brief summaries of today’s major articles about animal rights, animal abuse, and vegetarianism. Useful for examples for papers and to find something heard on the radio or seen on television.

Cloning
On-line articles about the ethics of cloning humans, including the perspectives of both sides. Includes some essays, too. Maintained by a philosopher at Univ. British Columbia.

Human Cloning Foundation
An advocacy group that opposes criminalization of attempts to bring about reproduction of humans by cloning. Links to essays, photos, and discussions on line.

Hemlock Society
Site maintained by people sympathetic to the death with dignity for people with terminal illness and/or unbearable pain. Includes articles on latest right-to-die legal decisions.

Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMOs) - AGAINST
A site maintained by UBC grad student Bryn Williams-Jones, with pages on Greenpeace’s opposition to GMOs, Jeremy Rifkin’s "Foundation for Economic Trends," and other opponents of genetically-modified food.

Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMOs) - FOR
Maintained by C. S. Prakash of Tuskegee University, a leading proponent of GMO’s for food and to end starvation, with many useful links to papers and a history of the movement among scientists.

Genetics and Ethics
Another very good site maintained by Bryn Williams-Jones, a graduate student in bioethics, with many links to sites about the broad category of "genetics and ethics," which includes gene therapy, cloning, DNA banking, prenatal diagnosis, presymptomatic testing, DNA identification in criminal trials, genetic engineering, genetic enhancement, and genetics in culture.
