Using
the Map Exercises
Minimum System Requirements This site uses the
latest technologies to present large, interactive maps
to you with a minimum of download time. Despite the
size of some of these maps (due to the breadth and depth
of information available), each map has been streamlined
and resources are shared between maps to make your viewing
experience as productive as possible. To accomplish
this effectively, the following technologies are required:
Supported Browsers This site will work in most
versions of the popular browsers. While we encourage
you to use the latest browsers, as a general rule, PC
users may use Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.01 and later,
Netscape Navigator 2.0 and later, and AOL 3.0 and later.
Due to a significant limitation in Microsoft's implementation
of JavaScript, Macintosh users must use Netscape Navigator.
Neither the Mac Internet Explorer nor AOL will properly
display these files.
MacroMedia Shockwave for Flash
Flash
is used to show you high-quality, scalable maps. Netscape
users require the Flash 4 plug-in, while Microsoft Internet
Explorer users on the Windows platform require the ActiveX
control. Both versions can be downloaded for free from
Macromedia.
If you do not have Flash, you will not be able to use
any of the interactive maps. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you
have an earlier version of Flash, you may be able to
see an incomplete map with limited functionality. If
you notice that a map does not have a title, or some
of the buttons don't appear to work when you expect
them to, check which version of Flash you are using.
One quick way to do this is to right-mouse-click (for
Windows users) or Control-click (for Macintosh users)
on the map. A limited navigation menu will appear at
your mouse position. At the bottom of the menu, a "Using
Flash x" option will appear, revealing your version
number.
