Supplementary Materials for Students
A variety of additional components are available to support Entrevistas. Many are free to adopting institutions. Please contact your local McGraw-Hill representative for details on policies, prices, and availability.
- A Listening Comprehesion cassette or CD comes shrinkwrapped with every new student edition of the textbook. This contains all of the native-speaker interviews presented in each chapter.
- The Manual de práctica, developed by the authors with contributions by Sayo Murcia and Wayne Gottshall of the University of Oregon, follows the organization of the main textbook and provides additional review and practice of vocabulary and grammatical structures. In addition, each chapter of the Manual de práctica begins with a review section (Repaso y anticipación) that recycles previously studied vocabulary and grammatical items in preparation for the current chapter. A Portfolio cultural at the end of each chapter is a selection of three activities that allow students to synthesize the material covered in the textbook chapter. Some tasks stress observation, analysis and comparison of texts and realia. Others focus on developing knowledge of content through Web-based or library research, while still others provide students with free-writing tasks. Teachers may assign any number of these activities, which students may turn in with their workbook, or assemble into a cultural portfolio to be collected and assessed at the end of the semester. A final self-quiz (¿Qué aprendiste?) allows students to assess their mastery of the material.
- The Audio Program, available on audiocassette or audio CD, is available for student purchase. Coordinated with the Manual de práctica, this program provides hours of focused listening practice and opportunties to develop pronunciation and speaking abilities.
Video and Multimedia
The Video to accompany Entrevistas, which is available to adoption institutions and also for student purchase, contains all of the native-speaker interviews integrated in the Entrevistas section of each chapter. Students will have the opportunity to view speakers from diverse countries of the Spanish-speaking world while learning about their lives, their customs, and their culture. Each interview is separated into manageable segments that contain useful on-screen interview questions, providing structure to the interview and also helping facilitate comprehension.
- The CD-ROM, available in both Windows and Macintosh formats and packaged with every new copy of the student textbook, offers an enhanced version of the student textbook in an interactive electronic format. Through the CD-ROM’s innovative and visually appealing activities, students develop listening comprehension skills, refine their reading ability, reinforce their understanding of vocabulary and grammar, and explore the culture of the Spanish-speaking word. The CD-ROM also contains a link to the Entrevistas Online Learning Center Website.
- The Online Learning Center Website offers an abundance of resources for students, including links to thematically related sites, additional review activities, and maps of the Spanish-speaking world. The Online Learning Center Website may be accessed at www.mhhe.com/entrevistas.
