| Available in both IBM and Macintosh platforms, the ¿Qué tal? CD-ROM continues the emphasis on the meaningful use of Spanish that characterizes the student text. Throughout the innovative and engaging activities, students must demonstrate an understanding of what they are reading or hearing in order to successfully complete the tasks. | ![]() |

In each lesson, many activities focus on the vocabulary and grammar presented in the corresponding chapter of the textbook. Others introduce students to characters from the new video, inviting students to write to them on e-mail or to converse with them. Recording and printing capabilities make the CD-ROM a true four-skill ancillary. The CD-ROM also contains a link to this ¿Qué tal? web site, a "talking" dictionary, helpful verb charts, and the McGraw-Hill Electronic Language Tutor (MHELT). |
| This is just one example of the many types of interactive activities presented in the ¿Qué tal? CD-ROM. In this "concentration"-style game, which practices both vocabulary and grammar, students match descriptions with images. When students correctly match the descriptions and images, both "cards" disappear, providing students with immediate feedback. When the activity has been successfully completed, all images and their corresponding descriptions are displayed together. Students may also save their work as a text file and print it out or e-mail it to their instructor. This allows instructors to track student's work on the CD-ROM. | ![]() ![]() |
| In Actividad 6 of each chapter's Un poco de todo section, students have the opportunity to "converse" with one of the ¿Qué tal? video characters in the Conversaciones activity. Students hear four questions, recording their responses to the questions. Once all four questions have been answered, students play back the "conversation" between them and the video character. | ![]() |

Another unique item of the ¿Qué tal? CD-ROM is its e-mail feature found in each chapter. When students begin a chapter, they hear a "You have mail!" message ("¡Ud. tiene correo!"), and they can access that message at any time as they work on the CD-ROM. Each e-mail message is "written" by one of the ¿Qué tal? video characters. The one on the left was written by José Miguel Velasco, a college student who lives in Quito, Ecuador. Each e-mail is personalized to the student and includes the current date. In Actividad 7 of Un poco de todo, students have the opportunity to send an e-mail back to the video character, which can also be saved and printed out or e-mailed to their instructor. |
| Also included in each chapter of the CD-ROM is the Vistazo cultural section, in which students can read about a Hispanic cultural topic related to the chapter theme. Featured in this section is a unique "weblink" button, which students can click on to access this ¿Qué tal? web site. The weblink button initiates the program to search for a browser on the student's hard drive, then sends them to the URL for the web site. | ![]() |
| Thus, the fully-integrated ¿Qué tal? content and ancillary package extend to multimedia and the World Wide Web. Please contact your local McGraw-Hill College sales representative for an examination copy of the CD-ROM. | ![]() |
