Family Communication

"Communication within the family has become an increasingly important topic to both researchers and practitioners. Most of us understand the importance of our families and we desire satisfying family lives. Family theorist S. Wahlroos observed, 'The greatest happiness and the deepest satisfaction in life, the most intense enthusiasm and the most profound inner peace, all come from being a member of a loving family.' Marital researcher G. Spanier, on a PBS program entitled 'Love and Marriage,' stated, 'Because we live in such an impersonal society, we are trying to personalize our lives through families.' However, families are coming apart at historically unprecedented rates. Further, their forms are changing dramatically. How can we have satisfying family relationships in these changing times?"
