Leadership in Groups
"Although we have stressed leadership functions rather than traits, there are specific behaviors often characteristic of leaders. If we compare those who get weeded out with those who emerge as leaders, we see some clear-cut differences. The first tend to be quiet, uninformed or unskilled, inflexible, and bossy or dictatorial; they also spend a great deal of time socializing. In contrast, emergent leaders tend to speak up, to have good ideas and state them clearly, to care about the group, and to make sacrifices and build cohesiveness (Borman, 1976). In sum, leadership functions include a number of behaviors that can be learned. " (Tubbs & Moss, Human Communication, p. 291)
