Selection Interview: Assignment Description
For this assignment you will be evaluated as both an interviewer and an interviewee. This assignment serves as a "capstone" experience for you in the course, and consequently, each of the previous assignments have taught you skills necessary for completion of this assignment. You will be paired off with an interview partner by your instructor. Your primary resources for completing this assignment are Chapters 8 and 9 and material found in this website.
First, you will provide your interview partner with the job description, resume, and cover letter you completed for previous activities. That information will allow your interview partner to prepare an interview guide for your mock interview. You will also receive similar materials from your interview partner and you will be required to complete an interview guide. The interview guide should be structured for a 10-12 minute interview and all questions should conform to all national and state EEO laws. As the interviewer, you will be graded on the structure of the interview, how well you establish rapport with the interviewee, and the questions asked during the interview.
As the interviewee you will be evaluated on your ability to answer questions during the
interview, your skill at establishing rapport, and whether or not you are able to ask
appropriate questions of the interviewer. Approximately 50% of your grade will be
determined by your performance as an interviewer and approximately 50% will be determined
by your performance as an interviewee (your instructor will decide the exact grade
distribution).
