Definition Equilateral Triangle Isosceles Triangle Scalene Triangle An equilateral triangle has three sides of equal length. An isosceles triangle has two sides of equal length. A scalene triangle has no sides of equal length. When the sides of triangles are the same length, we mark them with a hash mark like this: 0 Classify each triangle as equilateral, isosceles, or scalene. a) 95 mm 95 mm 47 mm 1 2 b) 5 3 cm 4 4 cm 6 cm 1 2 c) Solution a) This is an isosceles triangle because two of the sides are the same length. b) This is a scalene triangle because no sides are the same length. c) What do you notice about the lengths of the sides? All sides are the same length. This is an equilateral triangle.
